Oven Mitts - Who likes them?
Oven Mitts, or as some others like to call them, Oven Gloves. Recently I had a request for some groovy handmade oven mitts. At first I thought this was a bit funny... why wouldn't you just go and buy one from a store? Well I had a think about it, then I realised, of course groovy hand made oven mitts would be a FABULOUS idea! If you think about it, you probably have at least one oven mitt hanging somewhere in your kitchen right now. It's probably pretty ordinary looking, or even ugly. So it seems only logical that if you're going to have something practical that you use all the time in your kitchen that is readily visible, why not have a good looking one? So I have been busily making some new oven mitts. I have used all sorts of different designs, traditional ginham with cute little tree appliques, cute Japanese print mushroom fabric, pretty bird print fabric, colourful stripes, polka dots, sausage dog print fabric, and even some recycled fabrics to name just a few. All the mitts have a double layer of wool/cotton blend batting in the lining to protect your hands from the heat and are lined with thick black cotton fabric. I gave a set to a friend as a house warming gift for her new place and she loves them (and so do all her visitors :-)! I think they have been so greatly appreciated because it's nice to surround yourself with nice, pretty things, especially when they're practical as well! And it's often hard to find something unique, or "just what you're after" in main stream stores sometimes. I have been selling my hand made oven mitts at markets and at a few venues online, such as: http://sharalambethdesigns.etsy.com and http://sharalambethdesigns.dawanda.com If you haven't been to either of those sites before I HIGHLY recommend that you do yourself a favour and head on over to http://www.etsy.com and http://www.dawanda.com I'd love to hear what you think about oven mitts, or if you have any ideas for other practical household goods that need a face-lift :-) |
